Boschendal is one of South Africa’s oldest, largest and most storied wine estates. Today it is a diversified farming and hospitality business employing approximately 600 people. Doron is a non-executive director.

A very brief tenure as a special advisor to the Minister of Finance ended on 31 March 2017 when Pravin Gordhan was removed as Minister of Finance (for the second time) by Jacob Zuma.

Equal Education

Co-Founder

2008 – 2018

Equal Education became South Africa’s largest and most vibrant independent youth organisation. Doron led it—with a great team—into a national organisation with thousands of members, hundreds of branches and over 100 staff. It conducted research, campaigns, parliamentary submissions, litigation, media, community organising and leadership training. Doron served in various positions: Coordinator 2008 – 2012, Deputy General Secretary 2012 – 2015, Treasurer 2015 – 2018.

Equal Education Law Centre

Founder & Board Member

2011 – 2017

Doron initiated the EELC as an independent public interest law firm in late 2011 to support Equal Education through research and litigation, and served on its board until 2017.

Isivivana

The Khayelitsha Youth & Community Centre (KYCC) owns and operates the Isivivana Centre, a large community centre in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. It was funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies. Doron co-managed a team to acquire the land, raise funds, set up the trust, build the centre, hire staff and establish an endowment for its long-term sustainability.

Tshisimani

Tshisimani is an activist training centre in Mowbray, Cape Town. Doron drafted the initial concept for the centre and assisted in recruiting the board. He then coordinated the renovation of the centre’s premises (link.)

The Bookery

The Bookery is an NGO that creates school libraries and provides them with a trained youth librarian. Doron established it as a project of Equal Education in 2010.

Students for Law & Social Justice

Founder

2007 – 2009

Students for Law & Social Justice (SLSJ) was a student-run NGO operating across South Africa, offering law students a space to engage law in its social and political context. Doron founded it and arranged the first national seminar in 2007.

Open Shuhada Street

Open Shuhada Street was an organisation focussed on human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Doron co-founded it in 2008.

Limmud

Co-Founder in South Africa

2006/7

Limmud is a volunteer organisation that arranges pluralistic Jewish educational and cultural events. Doron co-founded the South African branch in 2006/7 and served as the chair of the inaugural Cape Town Limmud. 

Habonim

Mazkir Klali (national head) 2003

Habonim is a secular, liberal Jewish youth organisation established in 1930. Doron held various leadership positions, which included being the organisation’s national head in 2003.
